RenCAN Learn

You can access the RenCAN Learn learning platform here.

We’ve co-created (alongside Sustain The Change) a new place-based digital learning platform to help people and groups in Renfrewshire take practical climate action. It’s designed for anyone who lives or works in Renfrewshire and wants to make a difference.

What to Expect:

  • Bite-sized online lessons developed with local community groups
  • Friendly workshops, tools and templates you can use right away
  • Free to get started
  • Designed for charities, volunteers and local organisations - no jargon

Courses Available So Far:

Course 1: Community Climate Action. This course is for people already active in their communities — whether you’re a volunteer, part of a local group, or work for a community organisation — and you’re motivated to take climate action where you live. Your reasons might be different: tackling fuel bills, building local resilience, promoting social justice, caring for the environment or improving your community.

Course 2: Influencing Climate Action. This course is for people who want to help their community take more climate action — whether you’re a volunteer, part of a local group, working in a community organisation or an individual community member. You don’t need a big platform or a formal role to influence change. Influence happens in everyday conversations, small actions, local decisions, and the trust people already have in you.

Course 3: Climate Leaders – From Idea to Action. A practical, hands-on course for people working or volunteering in local community groups, charities, social enterprises, and other local organisations. It helps participants turn climate concern into practical, achievable local action.

All of the above is FREE! No cost to you or your group.

Community Climate Action Workshops in Renfrewshire with RenCAN Learn

Our workshops bring together local community groups, residents, and third sector organisations to explore practical, achievable ways to tackle climate challenges right here in our communities. Combining community development with a service design approach, these sessions help you set meaningful goals and take actionable steps.

What to Expect:

  • Learn Together: Understand different types of climate action that can make a real difference in your community.

  • Take Action: Walk away with clear, focused goals and practical steps to get started.

  • Real Impact: In our pilot sessions, some groups found renewed direction and overcame internal hurdles, aligning their teams and making meaningful progress on their climate initiatives.

Our facilitator Scott Duncan has 20+ years of community development experience with a significant focus on community based climate actions well as being an approved Trainer and Associate Member of IEMA (Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment). Scott is not coming to the sessions as the ‘expert in the room’, as his approach is to help your community group identify where you can develop your capacity around sustainability and climate action.

How to Join:

We offer these workshops to existing community groups and can arrange sessions at times that work best for you. Course availability is limited, so if you are considering climate action in Renfrewshire, then please get in touch soon to avoid missing this free opportunity.
